Description

FGN Guitars

If you’re accustomed to playing high-end Japanese-made instruments, the likelihood is that you’ve already played an FGN (Fujigen); the company originally built its reputation as an OEM manufacturer for the world’s most respected brands. Now, with their own range of guitars, they exercise creative independence over instrument design, while maintaining their time-won attention to detail.

This piece has unique features and outstanding build quality that are met by top-quality components. The Odyssey is fitted with Gotoh SD91-05M Magnum Lock tuners, resulting in silky smooth tuning action, superb tuning stability, and lightning-fast string changes.

FGN's J-Standard Fret Edge treatment contributes to much smoother fingering and a sculpted neck heel allows for much greater comfort when playing higher up.

We’re very proud to stock these beautifully made guitars; very few brands offer such a high level of quality for the price than FGN.

All FGN guitars and basses have a unique Circle Fretting System (C.F.S.). It was created by FGN to offer superior pitch accuracy and articulation than conventional frets on guitars and basses. All frets are installed on the fingerboard with a slightly curved shape, so that every string crosses all the frets at 90 degrees, i.e. to offer a minimum contact of string on a fret, and it makes the scale length of every string even where it would vary on conventional fretting. The C.F.S. is a solution of fretting on a traditional guitar and bass and it offers clearer articulation and tones giving you extra dimensions when you play chords and cuts through the mix when you play single notes.

Our Thoughts

This guitar much like everything FGN make is a wonderful instrument, the aesthetics and finishing are fantastic and the feel and playability is just as great. For its price point you wont find many manufacturers putting in the kind of quality you find with FGN. All of that is before you even plug it in..

Immediately upon plugging this guitar in and strumming the first notes the bridge position sounds awesome. Normally when playing clean i outright avoid bridge humbucking positions however with this guitar the FGN XPERT humbucker sounds great, somehow it takes the tonal qualities of a single coil and just thickens them up a little. Somehow despite this, when distorted, that same quality that makes the bridge sound so great clean works just as well distorted creating a tight sounding gain tone even when playing more hard rock and metal type sounds. The other positions aren't to be forgotten either, the middle pickup is really great with a balanced tone and the neck position is especially warm with a rich low end. The bridge also splits and sounds just as good when doing so. This is quite a warm sounding guitar on the whole with a great range of tones that could see it fitting in a wide range of genres. That being said it sings rather than screams so if you want something really aggressive sounding this isn't it. If however, you're after something with a sweet rich tone and plenty of range then this may be the one.

As with everything FGN the playability is delightful, sliding especially on this guitar feels fantastic, perhaps due to the J standard fret edge treatment and satin neck alongside the CFS (Circular fretting system). The neck heel though not perfect allows you to reach the high frets comfortably enough and the neck profile though quoted as a U felt much to me like a medium C and was very comfortable.

The two point trem system was stable and sounds wonderful though an upgraded nut may be in order for the more aggressive whammy user.

Great guitar, Great value.
